SOS Application Privacy Policy

Terminology used in this Privacy Policy:

SOS Application/s – All Apps maintained and released by SOS-ICT (Pty) Ltd for Us or our Partners on the Google Playstore and the Apple AppStore.

User – The Person or Persons who make use of the SOS Application.

This Privacy Policy was updated on 2 July 2021. However, the Privacy Policy can change at any time, to comply with legal requirements, Policy requirements or due to changing business needs.

SOS-ICT (Pty) Ltd built our family of SOS Applications for the purpose of personal emergency assistance. The Application is meant to be used as a tool when you find yourself in a situation where you require assistance from a private security company, medical assistance company or in the event of a car breakdown, a roadside assistance company. This SERVICE is provided by SOS-ICT (Pty) Ltd and our Associated Partners and is intended for use as is.

This page is used to inform our Visitors and Application Users regarding our policies with the collection, use, and disclosure of Personal Information to anyone who has decided to make use of our Service.

If you choose to use our Service, then you agree to the collection and use of information in relation to this policy. The Personal Information we collect is used for providing and improving our services. We will not use or share your information with anyone except as described in this Privacy Policy.

Information collection and use:

The SOS Applications collects personal data:

  • Provided by Users to us, during account creation.
  • Created during use of our service.

Data Provided by Users.

User profile:

We collect data when users create or update their SOS Application accounts. This data may include their name, email, phone number, date of birth, ID number, gender, medical information( which may include medical aid number, blood type, allergies, medical conditions for use in an emergency situation), emergency contacts( you have the choice to include contact information of persons whom you would like to notify in the event of an emergency), secondary user contact information and a recent photo(which can be used as identification during an emergency).

During use of our service:

When a user requires the assistance of a private security company, Medical assistance company or roadside assistance company, the user presses the panic button related to the service required.
This action will create an alert on our system. The Data that we store from such an event may include, the users name, phone number, email address, time of alert, precise and/or coarse Geolocation data(Latitude and longitude) where the alert was initiated as well as Updated precise and/or coarse Geolocation data while the alert remains open. This data is shared with the required assistance providers, to allow them to rapidly respond to the emergency situation as efficiently and effectively as possible.

Your Privacy rights at SOS-ICT (Pty) Ltd

At SOS-ICT (Pty) Ltd we believe in your right to data privacy. We treat all data as the property of the individual which it belongs to and we protect that data to the best of our abilities at all times. We believe in your right to access, modify and correct the data you provided at any time. This is however not always possible where/when the data you are trying to modify is your phone number, which is used as your account Identification number and was verified by OTP. In the event that you require your phone number to be changed, we will gladly assist where possible. You can contact us at any time using the contact details provided in this Privacy Policy.
There may be situations where we cannot grant your request, for example where you ask us to delete alert data or transaction data, where we might be required by law to keep a record of such data. Other reasons your privacy request may be denied are if it jeopardizes the privacy of others, is frivolous or vexatious, or would be extremely impractical.

How does SOS-ICT (Pty) Ltd make use of the data you provide?

To enable the services we provide.

SOS-ICT (Pty) Ltd will only make use of the data you provide when we have a valid legal reason to do so. Depending on the circumstance, We may rely on the consent you have given, by agreeing to this Privacy Policy by making use of our SOS Application to fulfill a contract of service with you as it relates to your specific circumstance during an emergency event, where you have requested the appropriate emergency assistance. An example of a special circumstance where we would share your medical information, would be: Where you are unable to communicate with medical staff at the scene of an emergency, where they would require information to best assist them in giving you the best possible care in your condition; We would supply information as required, such as your blood type, medical aid information, allergies, known medical conditions and a recent photo. In the event of an emergency, this information has saved lives and helped countless numbers of people get the best possible care during an emergency and also where medical aid information was available, the best possible after care.

To communicate with you.

SOS-ICT (Pty) Ltd or our associated partners may also use the information you have supplied to directly communicate with our/their customers. We will not sell or share your information with any other third party organizations for advertising purposes.

Required by law.

In the event where we are required by law to share any information with the appropriate authorities, we would have to comply where the court orders us to do so.

Do we share your personal data?

SOS-ICT (Pty) Ltd may share your data with service providers who act on behalf of us or our associated partners or others at your direction.

Service Providers

We have an ever growing network of service providers in the private security, Medical and roadside assistance fields. Depending on your location at the time of an emergency, we will contact the nearest available service provider, to get the assistance you require to you as quickly as possible. We will be required to share information about you and your location with these service providers.

Associated Partners.

Our Associated Partners are companies in the security, medical and roadside assistance fields, who are a part of our network of Service providers.

Others.

We will notify the emergency contacts which you have chosen to receive a notification whenever you raise an alert. The emergency contact/s will receive a notification containing your name, the type of alert that was raised as well as the location where the alert was raised. You can add or remove emergency contacts at any time, should you wish to do so.

How do we protect your personal data?

SOS-ICT (Pty) Ltd believes in protecting your data to the best of our abilities. Our Partners and We make use of all standard security measures to protect your personal information. These measures include data encryption, protected access to client personal information from within our facilities, encrypted (SSL) transfer of sensitive data entry forms. All supplied payment information is transmitted via our servers. Our data centres(where our physical servers are located) are SSAE16 compliant and conform to all US, UK and EU data privacy and protection requirements and standards. However no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure and we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

Children and their personal data?

We at SOS-ICT (Pty) Ltd understand the importance of keeping the personal data of children protected. We consider children as individuals under the age of 13. These services do not address anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13 years of age. In the event where a parent would like to include their child or children on our SOS Application, the full responsibility of all personal data as is supplied will fall on the parent and must be given with consent by the parent. If your child has registered on the SOS Application without your consent, or you would like to have their personal data removed from our system. Please contact through the contact information supplied in this Privacy Policy. If we learn that a child’s personal data was collected without appropriate authorization, we will delete the data as soon as possible.

Cookies

Cookies are files with a small amount of data that are commonly used as anonymous unique identifiers. These are sent to your browser from the websites that you visit and are stored on your device’s internal memory. Our SOS Application does not make use of these “cookies” explicitly. However the SOS Application may use third party code and libraries that use “cookies” to collect information and improve their services. These services could include but are not limited to Google Play Store, Google Firebase and Apple App Store.

How do we use your Contact list information?

Our Partners and We do not collect your contact list information, we require the privilege only to allow you to access your contact list while using our application and:

When you choose to make use of our secondary tracking features, we will store only the numbers of the contacts, which you have chosen to allow tracking permission.
We however do not sell or share this information with any third party; this is purely for the purpose of application functionality and remains your choice should you choose to make use thereof.

How do we make use of your location data?

Our Partners and we use your live location data to allow emergency response teams to locate you as quickly and efficiently as possible during an emergency. We only track our users location if/when the user has activated a “Panic”, “Assist” or “Medical” response. The application user can also choose to share their location with other application users; we however do not make use or have access to that location data.
